About 20 teachers were released from work because of their religious views

In February 2012 the catholicos of Armenian Apostolic church Geregin II and Minister of Education and Science of Armenia Armen Ashotyan convened joint meeting where Mr. Ashotyan announced that “sectarian” teachers are fired from their work because they are doing religious preaching at schools. During the meeting one of the teachers declared that she is forced to make the pupils crosses on themselves, the pupils are taught the world view and philosophy of Armenian Apostolic church (prohibited by the Laws of the RA) and as a result some of the students were “proselytized” which, as was shown on TV, was accepted by participant of the meeting “with great enthusiasm”. During the meeting was announced that about 20 teachers were fired from work within three years.
Lawyer Diana Grigoryan applied to court demanding from the Ministry of Education and Science to present the bases for the release of the teachers but the Minister in his letter to court declared that he is not aware on such cases and he does not know how many teacher was released and what was the bases for release. on July 12 2012 Diana Grigoryan during the first session of the court presented three TV reports where the Minister directly declares that teachers were fired by “themselves” because of religious preaching and they have such proofs. The second session of the court is not appointed yet.
