Jos and Akure — It was a tragedy in Abonong Village in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Council of Plateau State when suspected gunmen on Tuesday burnt to death a pastor of Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Adamu Gyang Wurim; his wife and three their children while asleep. Wurim was burnt beyond recognition with his children in his bedroom while his wife was shot in the bathroom.
The attackers went and shot dead two of the deceased’s neighbours while one person was also killed in Dorowa village in Fan District also in Barkin Ladi Local Council in the same night, bringing the total people killed to eight.The Guardian learnt that the attackers armed with machetes and AK47 rifles reportedly stormed the village at about 8.00 p.m. shooting sporadically and burning houses, including part of the cleric’s house.
Chairman of the Berom Youth Movement, Foron Branch, Mr. Thomas Tsok, said: “They first shot at two young men walking out of the village where they had gone to charge their phones at the deceased pastor’s house, killing one and wounding the other.”

Meanwhile, Spokesman of the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major Adam Umar, told The Guardian: “We are going to make an official statement later in the day. We are compiling details of the unfortunate attacks. We are going to make statement to that effect. We are going to get across to you when the details are ready.”Also, Plateau State Police Command Spokesman, Deputy Superintendent Mathias Terna Tyopev, said he would get to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area as he had not got anything yet.
