The Armenian Varagavank monastic complex in Bakracli village of Ipekyolu district of Turkey’s Van Province is on the verge of destruction, writes Ermenihaber.

Most of Varagavank’s churches no longer exist, and all that remains from them are walls and stones. Only one church has been partially preserved from this monastic complex, but this church is also on the verge of collapse. This church is under the care of a 63-year-old Kurdish shepherd living in the aforementioned village.

The Varagavank monastic complex has never been restored under any Turkish government and is abandoned by the Turkish state.

There are more than 100 Armenian churches in Van Province alone, of which only the Holy Cross Church on Akhtamar Island on Lake Van and the Church of the Holy Mother of God in Edremit (Artamet) district have been restored.
